As Sierra Leone female cricket is still in the wilderness, two female cricketers: Anne Marie Kamara and Linda Bull will be out of the wilderness, as they are expected to attend the Female Elite Academy Training in South Africa, slated for 14-17 October this year.
According to the Graham McMillan, Senior Development Co-Ordinator of International Cricket Council (ICC) said the elite course will be organized by the ICC Regional Office.
Graham McMillan said the reason for the course is that they want the academy to focus on the introduction of a new format to the lady cricketers of the continent.
He also went further that this scheduled event will focus on the senior ladies and female cricketers selected must be seen as bowling or batting specialists or all rounders. He also emphasized that the players selected should be over 18 years and the reason for that is that they do not have the ability to chaperone minors and they must speak and communicate in English, as the presenters during the training will speak English throughout the training course.
Graham McMillan also revealed that that this is the first Ladies Academy and that the programme will be quite fluid and dynamic, as many countries are going to take part in the training including Botswana, Tanzania, Ghana, Rwanda and a host of other countries. Speaking to Awoko Sports about the Elite Academy, the National Female Coach, Abdul Koko Sesay, said that he was very happy when he received the news about the elite training, as he wants to give some of the female players the opportunity to show their talents.
The selection of the two players was done on merit and went further to appeal to the other female players to take their training very seriously, as more courses of such nature will be coming as time goes on, adding that those who are up to standard will be selected.
In a related development, after the elite Academy training, the National U-19 female team is expected to participate in their first international outing in Tanzania.
This will be the first exposure of these female girls who started training over a year now.
If this particular competition materializes, female cricket will take a different turn in the country as more females will come on board.
