The Secretary General for the International Council on Traditional Sports and Games, Shammi Rana, visited Sierra Leone from 17-22 November to meet with officials at the Ministry of Sport, Africa TSG Union and Sierra Leone TSG Association members. This is Rana’s first trip since taking up the job and his first in Africa with Sierra Leone the very first country. The purpose of his visit to Sierra Leone was to discuss with government the proposed setup of an administrative and research secretariat in Sierra Leone and to also get the country’s commitment to the global initiative of popularizing Traditional Sports and Games. His first point of call was the SLTSG before meeting with the Deputy Sports Minister, Kai Lawrence Mbayo. In his dialogue with the Deputy Sports Minister, he explained about the sports and UNESCO’s move to spread the sports across Africa. He also promised that they will give full support to Sierra Leone if the country remains committed to housing the Secretariat. Secretary General of the TSG Africa, Chief Michael Shamsu Mustapha, said the essence of the Union is coordinating the activities of Traditional Sports and Games in Africa. This involves preserving our heritage, popularize and develop own sports.
