Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Traditional healers in Sierra Leone, Mohamed L. Bah and Pa Mancha, have drawn attention to the remaining branch of the Freetown Oldest Cotton tree, signalling the need for heightened security measures from January through April and beyond 2024, emphasizing the importance of national peace.
According to these experts, the backdrop of this single branch attached to the broken Cotton tree carries significant symbolic meaning, cautioning against political turmoil and advocating for national cohesion.
Mohamed L. Bah from Seru Las Rare expressed that this branch serves as a symbolic call for unity and peace, warning political officials and citizens alike to prioritize honesty and sincerity in serving the state amidst the impending challenges.
He elaborated on his traditional insights, indicating an expected tumult around April or later in the year. He stressed that these challenges might not be orchestrated by major political stakeholders but by minority supporters and security personnel, thus urging vigilance and unity.
Bah referred to the initial fall of the Cotton tree in 2023, suggesting that it broke rather than was uprooted, despite having grown for over a century. He recounted incidents where the Cotton tree caught fire within, which was promptly extinguished by firefighters arriving from Circular Road.
He further alluded to the belief that certain items were buried beneath the Cotton tree before its growth.
To secure lasting peace and mitigate political turbulence, Bah suggested a traditional ritual involving the sacrifice of a seven-year-old bull (cow) in each district, cooking food for the locals. Additionally, he proposed enforcement of the law without intimidating key political figures who have their own supporters.
Pa Mancha echoed similar sentiments, stating that the initial revelation they received forewarned the attempted coup in the country. He urged national unity and emphasized the significance of the Cotton tree, attributing it to possessing powers related to political influence and protection against harm.
He also indicated a belief in maintaining perpetual power by boiling and washing with the remains of the Cotton tree.
These traditional healers underscored the importance of these rituals and calls for unity as a means to navigate potential challenges and foster lasting peace in the nation. AJ/8/1/2024
