Following a fire outburst at the Total Fuel Station along Main Motor Road, opposite FSSG School past Wednesday, Cecil Macfoy, a 27 year-old man is presently wallowing in agony with a fractured left leg at the Krim Private Clinic at 35 Percival Street in Freetown.
Cecil’s admission at Krim Clinic, came as a result of his alleged abandonment at the Connaught Hospital while he spent a night without being attended to, even when he was crying in pain, from a fracture he sustained as an aftermath of the fire.
Explaining his predicament in a reclining chair with tears running down his cheek, Cecil lamented that he was on his way onboard a taxi to collect a child from school, when the driver suddenly stopped at Total fuel station to fill his tank.
While the salesman was pumping the fuel from the nozzle, he (salesman) had a phone call and tried to answer the call. Immediately there was the sound of a loud blast, followed by a streaming fire heading towards the mini-mart.
Cecil said, with his seat belt fastened, he called the attention of the driver of the taxi to watch out. But the driver, on seeing the fire, took to his heels, leaving him in the car. He said he had to force his way out of the car to run for his life.
At this frightened moment, he said, vehicle owners around the periphery were rushing their vehicles out of the raging inferno, and accidently, one of the cars rushing out of the station hit him severely, resulting in his left leg being fractured.
He said he was abandoned at the point by the driver who hit him and ran away. It was his sister who coincidentally spotted him at the scene and telephoned their father about his condition.
He was rushed to the Emergency Hospital at Goderich, where the hospital management referred him to Connaught hospital.
The youngman said ever since he was administered analgesics at the Connaught’s Out-Patient, no other medication followed, justifying the reason for his father admitting him to a private clinic.
Simeon Macfoy, father of the victim attributed the fire incident to safety negligence on the part of the Total Filling station staff who were on duty at that moment.
He said that after the incident, he contacted one of the workers at Total Station but alleged that his response was not encouraging.
He said he has taken the onus to treat his son to save his life and after that, he will pursue the matter legally.
