The organization for bringing all Sierra Leoneans together (TOFBASLT) yesterday called on his Lordship the Mayor of the Freetown City Council Herbert George Williams. The courtesy call was in connection with the country’s 50th independence anniversary celebrations in order to clean strategic areas of the country as they have been doing it for the past 10 years.
The organization has been cleaning major intersections in the city. These include the Taylor Cummings garden PZ roundabout, UP Gun turntable, to name but just a few. At the meeting held at the Council’s hall the Mayor was very delighted and lauded their effort. The programme was well attended by Councilors representing their various wards,
Also in attendance were Chairladies of the various market centers in the city.
In response to the call made by TOFBASLT the Mayor said that Thursday the 10th of March 2011 there will be a march past of all traders in the city. Those that are in the East end of Freetown will gather at Up Gun roundabout and will march unto the national stadium with banners and placards while those in the West end of Freetown will gather at Lumley and march to the stadium. This march past will be to sensitize the public of operation pick a plastic in order to clean the city before the anniversary.
The Mayor further stated that this operation should not be only for the anniversary because the anniversary is just for a day but it should be in the mentality of every Sierra Leonean not to throw rubbish in the street but to find a nearby bin and empty whatever rubbish you may want to dispose of.
In addition the Mayor further stated that the cleaning proper will be done on Saturday, and the exercise will be segmented into two weeks and each area will have its own date and areas targeted will be properly cleaned.
The Mayor called on all Sierra Leoneans to be patriotic and learn to respect their country
