Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Chernor Sajor Barrie, along with two others, has been placed in detention at the Male Correctional Center on Pademba Road in Freetown, facing allegations of murder.
The trio was brought before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Ross Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, where they were charged with conspiracy to commit murder. According to the police report, the accused individuals are alleged to have conspired with unknown persons on September 14, 2023, at Conteh Drive, Rokel Village, Freetown, with the intent to murder Osman Sesay.
The police file included statements from the accused, witness statements, and photographs of the deceased at the crime scene.
During the court proceedings, a prosecution witness, Angela Baratay, a staff nurse at the Princess Christian Maternity Hospital (PCMH), testified under oath. She recalled the events of the day in question, stating that on September 14, 2023, she received a call from her neighbour, Martha Damba, who provided information about her son, Osman Sesay, who had passed away.
Upon receiving this distressing news, Baratay said she immediately rushed to the crime scene in Rokel. There, she was informed about Sesay’s alleged murder. She described how the victim had sustained head injuries and was transported to Connaught Hospital before being transferred to a mortuary.
Subsequently, Baratay provided a statement at the Rokel Police Post, and the case was later transferred to the Kissy Police Station.
Following this testimony, the prosecutor, ASP Bangura, requested an adjournment to confer with the witness.
Magistrate Kekura granted the prosecution’s request, and the accused persons were remanded in custody. The case was adjourned until November 7, 2023, for further examination-in-chief. Defence counsel for the accused is Lawyer Gbatundu Ndeyia Kutubu. SKS/6/11/2023
