Kwamebai-Krim Chiefdom in the Bonthe District is the latest scene of flood disaster which has destroyed 531 acres of rice fields before taking over an unspecified number of towns and villages across the riverine chiefdom.
Explaining the calamity left behind following the heavy down pour of rain which has left thousands homeless and completely destitute, resident Paramount Chief, A. B. Tiffa says a good number of towns and villages are still under water while 531 acres of rice fields are no more.
Explaining further, P. C. Tiffa says the survival of thousands of flood victims is at stake and that the remaining land surface cannot cope with the ongoing evacuation and as such they have had to flee to neighbouring chiefdoms. The local chiefs in turn described the entire population as destitute, particularly in the case of children, the aged and sick including lactating mothers.
Speaking to visiting Awoko News Reporter, the local chiefs pleaded with government, international NGOs, to timely intervene with the view of saving the hungry, the sick and of course the needy population, most of who have been dispossessed of their life-long earnings.
Narrating their sufferings, flood victims spoke of how the heavy down-pour of rain took over their home towns, destroying their houses, live stocks, farms and of late destroying their crops and that not even the newly cultivated cassava farms were spared by days of rains, marking the ending of September month this year.
It must be stated that Kwamebai-Krim Chiefdom has most of the time been hit by flood except that this year’s destruction has left behind the worst destruction in the history of Kwamebai-Krim Chiefdom flood disasters.
