Former Leone Stars team Manager Amb. Joe Bell has said that the destruction of football started after the Makeni elective Congress in 2005 where Nahim Kadi defeated late Dr Foday Bangura (Bangso).
He made this statement during a local radio sport program over the weekend.
He said the delegates who were supposed to do the right thing to vote the right person failed to do that instead they brought politics into the election and they were accusing the late Foday Bangso of being a member of the Sierra Leone People’s Party.
During that period he said most of them who voted, did so through party lines and elected the wrong candidate.
He also disclosed that most people who have party cards are also responsible for the present situation of the state of football in the country.
According to Mohamed Turay he said he was in Makeni during that particular election where delegates were taking money and making vows to support a certain candidate and some of them are still alive seeing the mess they have placed football in and they did the same thing in 2009.
Turay said some of the delegates in football are just there to make money when it comes to election, and after the election they are no more to be seen until another election then they surface again.
That is the reason why when it comes to SLFA election there is always confusion as delegates do not have passion for the game but for the money.
According to Civil Society activist Alphonso Manley, for him football was destroyed finally in 2013, when during that period the then Minister of Sports Paul Kamara declared openly for one candidate and at the end all of the Presidential candidates were disqualified.
