Tariq Mansour a 14 year old boy from America has donated 15 professional footballs to the National Team of Sierra Leone the Leone Stars yesterday at the Director’s Office at the national stadium.
He was accompanied by his parents as he made the donation to the Director of Sports Bai Kabia who later handed over the footballs to the administrative Secretary Abubakarr Kabba.
Tariq Mansour said the donation of the 15 footballs to the National team Leone Stars is just the beginning as he plans to do more in the future.
He said in America they have all the facilities but in Africa the facilities are not available that is why it will be very difficult for Africa to win the World Cup which will be his dream. Tariq said he does not want to wait but to start to contribute now.
The press Secretary to the first Lady Sia Koroma Lokobie Johnson who accompanied them disclosed that Tariq has an initiative to collect sporting equipments for the children of Sierra Leone, and that is why he is here to donate this time to the senior national team and this initiative comes from the first lady Sia Koroma who had an initiative which is called the First Lady’s initiative for Sports and Development.
He went further that the first Lady has a concern which is to restore Table Tennis and Handball because football is popular and that is why she wants to develop other sporting disciplines in the country.
Lokobie Johnson said that Tariq and his parents love Sierra Leone and that is why they have come back to Sierra Leone to help.
Tariq Mansour has also given scholarships to St Edward Secondary School which is his father’s alma mater and also the Annie Walsh Secondary school to pupils of his age group. The schools have also been given footballs.
The Director of Sports Saidu Mansaray in his own contribution said that they have 26 sporting disciplines that they are looking where the youths are engaged because they need to support them and with such gesture there is hope for them.
He also mentioned that football is the biggest sports in Sierra Leone but the slowest to develop in the country.
The administrative Secretary of the Sierra Leone Football Association Abubakarr Kabba after receiving the Footballs from the Director of Sports in his own contribution said if such gesture happen more often sports will develop in Africa.
He said there are many people who are in a better position but have never made such a donation at any time in their life. He thanked Tariq Mansour for such a gesture to the National team Leone Stars, and presented one Leone Stars jersey to Tariq Mansour with the No. 17 as a way of appreciation.
