In preparation for the London 2012 Olympics, the Swimming Association of Sierra Leone last Friday, concluded its selection of swimmers for the training camp in Bad Neustadt, Germany where they are expected to undergo five weeks of intensive and rigorous training ahead of the games.
The six best timed swimmers out of eight competitors who have been selected for the Training Camp will leave for Germany in three months time to undergo medical examinations following conclusion of their training before they would leave for the London.
The six swimmers with the fastest times in all four strokes (Butterfly, Freestyle, Back Stroke and Breast Stroke) in both Time Trials are; Osman Kamara: He broke his earlier time swum in the 100m Freestyle in the first trials by 0.8 seconds;
Morris Beale: He improved on his earlier time by 0.86 seconds;
Sahr James: The most improved swimmer in the team;
Abu Bakarr Jalloh: The Team Captain;
Aiah Mansa-Musa: An old member of the team;
Sorie Marrah: A debutant from No. 2 River.
“We are training very hard in anticipation of our proposed visit to the training camp in Bad Neustadt, Germany after which we will leave for the London games,” Victor Carew told this writer, adding, “All of the swimmers have improved greatly on their individual times and we hope that after the five weeks training in Germany, we will do great things at the games and return to Sierra Leone with laurels.”
Alhaji Dr. A. T. Fadlu-Deen, President of the Association said he is impressed with the improvements of the swimmers since the last trials and expressed satisfaction over the transparent way in which the trials were conducted and in the way the swimming team was selected.
He expressed optimism about the future of swimming in Sierra Leone now that the Association has resolved to take swimming to the highest level in the country.
