Deputy Head of Crime, Central Police Division, Inspector John Sheka Jabati has on Tuesday 10th November 2020 told Awoko newspaper that he has released four suspects who were incarcerated in police cells over a principal’s stolen vehicle. Suspect Bamba Sheriff and three others were released on bail after police found no evidence against them.

According to Detective Inspector Jabati, the suspects were released after police found no direct evidence connecting them to the alleged stolen vehicle with registration number ANX-313 belonging to the Principal of Freetown Secondary School for Girls (FSSG) in Freetown. The inspector further explained his steps during the course of investigation since the matter was reported to his division.

He said, upon receipt of the complaint of an alleged stolen vehicle, he and his team took the victim to the traffic unit where details of the vehicles were disseminated to various points for effective tracing. He added that details of the stolen vehicle were also sent to the toll gate communications.

The victim and FSSG principal Florence Kuyembeh earlier told police that she parked her vehicle outside the church she attended a few weeks ago, only to discover the green Mitsubishi vehicle missing after service, for which she later reported the matter to the Central Police Station.

Inspector Jabati disclosed that he will soon transfer the matter to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation, and revealed that only Bamba Sheriff and another will be sent to the CID as the other two suspects are not available.

Inspector Jabati warned vehicle owners to desist from exposing their keys to strangers, as he alleged that thieves are in the habit of stealing and replicating keys.
