About eight people including the husband of the deceased and a school teacher in Marampa, northern Sierra Leone, have since been rounded up and are now helping the police in their investigations.
Marie Kanu, the wife of Alimamy Fofana, is said to have got drowned in a nearby water well.
Her remains were discovered apparently 24 hours later, and were sent to the Connaught hospital in Freetown for a postmortem.
Inspector Salieu Santigie Kanu, the officer commanding the Lunsar Police Station where the matter is being investigated, referred to the issue as a case of “dry drowning.”
He said, “the police is suspicious of foul play as the woman was discovered with deep cut wound on her head plus what appeared to be some stab wounds on her throat.”
Inspector Salieu Santigie Kanu said he was optimistic that the police would sooner than later come up with the facts of the matter.
