The Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) has commenced with a public lecture on ‘preparing a workforce for start-up’ with AFFORD-Sierra Leone as the lead in the process.
Students were drawn from the Institute of Chartered Accountant. According to the Senior Programme Manager of AFFORD, David Bartholomew, the initiative started in 2008, and was launched by former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Carl Schramm and others. Since then, it has grown to 115 countries, with nearly 24,000 partner organizations. He said the GEW helps “map the entrepreneur ecosystem in those countries and enjoys the participation and support of presidents and prime ministers on every continent, focused on advancing economic growth.”
The AFFORD programme Manager maintained that GEW is more than an awareness campaign and it is about unleashing ideas and doing what it takes to spot activities “taking risks, solving problems, being creative building connections and learning from both failures and successes.”
During this week, Bartholomew said, which is from November12-18, the programme will inspire people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential, as self-starters and innovators.
In her lecture, Brenda Williams admonished the students to be steadfast in whatever they do, especially in their education. She spoke about preparation of resume and how to prepare for an interview, which she said, is the best opportunity when seeking a job, to woo the interviewer. Also, she said interview is about preparation and that the students should be prepared and ready to give their all, to secure the job.
Williams highlighted 10 steps when going for interviews among which are research, practicing, searching for the logistics for the interview, be prompt and professional and dress for success.
