The afternoon shift teachers of the St Edwards Primary School at Fort Street, whose salaries were allegedly, squandered by Patrick Tucker a senior teacher of the school, yesterday demonstrated with placards on the school’s grounds screaming “No Salary, No Work, No Learning.”
Mr Tucker, who is at present under police custody at the Central Police Station, was accused of embezzling colleagues’ salaries which amounted to Le 6,034,000 (six million and thirty four thousand Leones).
Yesterday, pupils sat helpless at the school’s gate not knowing their fate, just gazing at the placards on the wall which satirically presented Mr Tucker as a ‘Borbor Belle’. A pupil said, “they should have brought him (Mr Tucker) to the school for us to give him good trashing…” The affected teachers are calling on the Catholic Mission to intervene, while Mr Tucker is being investigated.
A cartoon on the school’s fence shows the deplorable situation of some of the affected teachers who were eagerly waiting for their salaries in order to settle personal financial arrears.
