Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – National Olympic Committee (NOC) President Prince Vandy Sualley emphasized the role of sports as a unifying force that allows people to come together to compete and connect.
“The NOC’s commitment to leveraging sports for development and peace remains steadfast,” President Sualley stated. He highlighted the committee’s initiatives aimed at nurturing young talents, promoting gender equality, and advocating for the inclusion of sports in the national development agenda, all of which contribute to a brighter future for Sierra Leone. Each sporting effort is seen as a step toward building a stronger and more cohesive society.
Looking ahead, President Sualley envisions a Sierra Leone where sports continue to break down barriers and promote unity. “By tapping into the energy and passion of the nation’s youth, the NOC aims to not only enhance athletic skills but also foster essential life skills such as leadership, teamwork, and community engagement,” he said.
In line with this year’s global theme of “Sports for the Promotion of Peaceful and Inclusive Society,” Sualley called on all Sierra Leoneans to renew their commitment to sportsmanship and camaraderie, emphasizing that sports should serve as more than a pursuit of victory. “Sports should act as a tool for promoting peace and prosperity beyond the confines of the playing field,” he noted.
Sualley concluded that through collective effort, Sierra Leone can establish a lasting legacy of peace through sports, one that will inspire and benefit future generations. BT/13/4/2024
