The Speaker of Parliament Hon. Justice Nathaniel Abel –Stronge has commended the work of the Parliamentary Legislative Committee especially its Chairman Hon. Chernor Ramadan Maju Bah.
The commendation from the Speaker came after the enactment of four vital Bills within three weeks. They are The Payment Systems Act, Goods and Services Tax Act, Bankruptcy Act and the Companies Act. The vehicle behind the passing of the Bills in Parliament is the legislative committee.
The Speaker lauded the efforts of the Legislative Committee and especially its chairman, Hon Chernor Bah and   also called upon them to continue their good work. The commendation received applause from colleague MPs.
Explaining to the press how he felt to be commended and the function of his committee, Hon. Chernor Bah said despite their function to oversee the activities of the Judiciary, their most important function also include to scrutinize Bills and assess it to know whether it is good for the people and if it meets all the legal criteria before it is recommended to Parliament for approval.
He said he felt humbled to receive commendations from Parliament as he stated “I have got the courage to do more and I think there are people that are recognizing our work”.
The Legislative Committee has 16 MPs but Hon. Bah paid homage to the few dedicated members and encouraged them not to relent. He emphasized that despite the under resourced nature of Parliament “We have to make sacrifice. There is always a time in your life that you should sacrifice and this is the time for us to do that”.
Hon. Chernor Bah appealed to the people to be patient with them and not to be misunderstood as they are there to push development.
