Insurance guru, Solomon Samba has emerged as the new President of the Freetown Golf Club, with the vision of taking the discipline to the schools to enhance the future growth of the sport.
Solo, as he is fondly called, upsetted the applecart of one time President Moufid Rashid, through a 74-40 votes win to head the institution for the ensuing year.
Speaking to Awoko, the versatile squash and golf player spoke of his desire to improve on the infrastructure of the club, embark on a massive membership drive, coupled with the ambition of organizing a lot of tournaments and social activities.
He further explained that the board will soon draw up an activity plan with time limits to achieve the set objectives, and appealed to members more especially corporate ones to throw in the sponsorship towel for more tournaments.
Assisting him to mann the affairs of the club are scibe Kobi Walker, Arne Johanson as Captain to be assisted by Lawyer Yada Williams.
Heading the bar is Mamoud Idriss, with Ms. Teresa S. Tamba in charge of entertainment, while George Taylor-Lewis is in charge of House Members.
Holding the fort as treasurer is Nigel Briddle, with Retired Colonel S. Sinnah elected to be the head of squash.
Competent sources within the Golf Club disclosed that this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) is the most attended for years.
