
For courageously accepting the out come of the 2007 General Elections, Solomon Ekuma Berewa yesterday received an award from Democracy Sierra Leone (DSL), at his residence at Goderich in Freetown.
Presenting the award to him, National Coordinator of DSL, Alhaji Mohamed Warisay said that, the award was part of the September 15th celebrations to commemorate the International Day of Democracy.
He added that as a credible civil society organization that has been monitoring developments in the country, “we have decided to give awards to eminent Sierra Leoneans and Institutions that have contributed in no little way to enhance democracy in the country”.
Mr. Warisay explained that DSL is a nation wide coalition of over sixty civil society organizations working towards expanding democratic values including respect for human rights, public accountability and the rule of law.
Solomon Berewa was among other eight prominent Sierra Leoneans who received awards from DSL for their contributions in promoting democracy in Sierra Leone.
Solomon Berewa was one of the signatories to the Lome Peace Accord that ushered in the peace we now enjoy, the coordinator stressed.
Receiving the award with a smiling face, Solomon Berewa said that he was very happy to be a recipient of this award, adding that he would not tolerate the spilling of blood for the sake of power.
