Lawyer H.M. Gevao yesterday testified before Magistrate Steven Conteh of court No. 1 on a land transaction of Eleven Million Five Hundred Thousand Leones (Le 11,500,000) that took place on the 28th August 2009 at his office between complainant – Alpha Gobeh and the accused Anthony Fayia Gabbah.
According to the testimony of the legal representative, he said that on the 28th August, he was in his office when the complainant told him that the accused wanted to sell a two (2) town lot piece of land at Hook Road Imatt costing Le15 Million in which he was inclined to pay 11,500,000.
He explained that the complainant counted the money before him and the accused, after which he handed it over to the accused as part of the payment for the land. There was an evidence of receipt signed by the accused and duly witnessed, the solicitor lamented. After they had left, Lawyer Gevao continued, they again visited his office to complain of the accused whom the complainant said had once sold the land to another person and that he wanted his money back. The accused he said pleaded with him (Solicitor) to give him barely one week in which he would bring back the money. This was granted he said but, the period came but to no avail. Because the accused refused to turn up, he said he instructed the complainant to make a report to the police station he concluded.
Defence Counsel Vandi Nabbi applied for bail. Bail was granted in the sum of Le 30 Million and the matter adjourned to the 29th for further hearing. In the same court Presided over by Magistrate Steven Conteh, Abu Mansaray, Unisa Conteh, Alhassan Turay, Foday Kamara were to answer to one count of Larceny. All accused person pleaded not guilty. According to their particulars of offence, on the 19th September 2009 at the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport New England all accused persons stole a huge quantity of Sababu Project Books Properties of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
