Social Services will be our priority – CPP

The CPP manifesto has said social services that include education, health, prisons and social welfare will be their priority if they are successful. Priority would be given to this sector. A new ministry of human resources (health, education, prisons and social welfare) will be created to superintend over these related services for greater efficiency in the delivery of these services to the people of Sierra Leone.
Education will be given the highest priority in a CPP government. This is because education is not only good for the individual but it is an economic necessity for the nation. A CPP government will ensure that the education sector is fully funded to make it modern, vibrant and affordable to all that want to have it.
A CPP government will introduce these programmes and reorganise the education sector to make it more efficient and productive.
The role of the department of education under the new ministry of human resources (or health, education and welfare) will be policy formulation, national curriculum development and educational quality regulatory services.
Decentralise the educational system of the country because in practice education is a function of local government. Primary and Secondary schools and Vocational / Adult-learning centres will be administered by the chiefdom management committees. The various District governments would administer the universities.
A CPP government is determined to rebuild Sierra Leone’s educational system to the highest level possible. Education was our pride and source of admiration by others in the sub-region and the world at large. It is not enough to continue to sing the old song that Sierra Leone was the Athens of West Africa without doing something about it. This has been one of the greatest points of failure of the present and previous governments.
They will allocate sufficient funds into the sector so that Sierra Leone will compete successfully world wide on the basis of quality or not at all. Quality comes from the development of the potentials of all of our people.
The people that we all want to govern are our greatest asset and a CPP government will ensure that our people can fulfil their potential.
Our government will ensure that it builds and promote a strong bridge to link education and employment. This is why a ministry if labour will be included in the cabinet with a renewed mandate, direction and importance. This is to give us a strong and consistent lead to ensure that standards are raised in every school. High standards in a conducive school environment are the key to the success of our educational system. A CPP government will intervene at all times in schools and educational institutions that have problems but will promote the development of good schools and institutions of higher learning whether in the public or private sector.
