Makeni, SIERRA LEONE – Without showing the day’s host any mercy in their top of the table clash, reigning champions of the Sierra Leone Female Premier League Mogbwemo Queens defeated host Malema Queens 5-1 on their home turf on Sunday in Kailahun.
Thanks to forward Wuya Mahoi’s hat-trick and goals from her team mates Mariama Sambu and skipper Kadiatu M. Kamara that earned then all three points to stretch their lead at the top of the table with 15 points out of five League games.
In the table-topping clash Mogbwemo Queen’s Mahoi netted the opener just four minutes on and three minutes later doubled her side’s lead earning her brace with her teammate, Mariama Sambu netting their third goal in the 45th.
Returning from the first half break, Mogbwemo Queen’s skipper Kadiatu M. Kamara who netted the first goal in this season’s Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League against Ram Kay Football Club in Bo and has scored in all their five League matches played so far, found the back of Malema Queens net in the 65th minute before Mahoi who was eventually voted player of the match completed her hat-trick in the 87th minute.
Despite conceding five goals in 87 minutes, the highest they’ve conceded this season, Malema Queens lately got themselves back into the match as their forward Sally Turay scored their consolation from the penalty spot.
The match day-five 5-1 heavy win not only ended Malema Queens unbeaten run but also added to the defending champions’ sterling heights this season after their 6-0 and 7-0 win over Albitaya Queens of Kabala and Patricia Umu Strikers of Kambia. ARW/23/1/2024
