The Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS), Kenema branch, has donated disaster management tools to five communities in the Nongowa chiefdom.
The communities are Waima Hindebu, Kpetewoma, Yawaima, Tisor and Bambawo.
Giving an overview of the programme the branch field officer, Jumu Brima, said the capacity assessment was conducted in February this year and the five communities selected as the most frequent disaster areas.
Mr Brima added that they were trying to mitigate disaster and had already donated five megaphones to the communities for sensitization.
Presenting the items, SLRCS’ Kenema branch chairman Sandi Moijue said the materials would help the community people to immediately respond to disaster.
He maintained that they looked at areas that were always hit by disaster.
He disclosed that, “the SLRCS Kenema branch has trained 40 volunteers for the forthcoming elections who will administer first aids in case of any emergency”.
The donated items are pickaxes, rakes, shovels axes and wheelbarrows.
