Makeni, SIERRA LEONE – The Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRC) Bombali District Branch is organizing an upcoming event, “Jog for Humanity,” slated for December 16, and has rallied volunteers and key stakeholders from Makeni City to participate.
In a conversation on Saturday, Mr. Amadu Wurie Timbo, the Youth Secretary of the SLRC Bombali District Branch, disclosed to Awoko Newspaper that volunteers from the global humanitarian society in Sierra Leone are gearing up for this event alongside significant stakeholders from Makeni city.
Mr. Timbo outlined the primary objective of the jog, emphasizing its role in fundraising to support humanitarian initiatives in Bombali District. He highlighted the diverse contributions of SLRC volunteers across Sierra Leone and worldwide, including providing free first aid services and training, as well as assistance during outbreaks and related crises.
Encouraging active involvement, Timbo urged participants to jog or walk, inviting well-wishers to engage with the Red Cross Bombali office and express their interest in participating by purchasing one of the available t-shirt options. These t-shirts can be ordered at prices of NLe 130, NLe 150, and NLe 250 respectively.
“Already, 50 people have placed their orders as of Saturday afternoon,” Timbo mentioned, indicating that preparations for the humanitarian event were 75% complete.
He expressed appreciation for the significant response from prominent figures in Makeni city, including the 4th Infantry Brigade Commander of Teko Barracks, the Northeast Regional Police Boss, the SLAJ National Vice President, and the mayor and chairman of the Makeni and Bombali District Council.
Timbo reiterated the organization’s hope for increased participation, emphasizing that proceeds from t-shirt sales would contribute to enhancing their forthcoming humanitarian services.
“Our dedicated SLRC volunteers are always committed to providing ongoing aid, and December 16 is an opportunity to show them our support,” he added, extending gratitude to Awoko Newspaper and other media outlets for their support in their voluntary efforts to save lives. ARW/11/12/2023
