In a bid to commence the construction of the LumleyTokeh Road the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) has paid out a total sum of Le 1.95b to identified property owners situated in the right of way of the proposed road network.
Training and Human Resource Manager of the SLRA Hassan Turay while chairing the payment meeting expressed thanks and appreciation to the beneficiaries of the payment for their understanding and cooperation and for their valuable sacrifice towards development.
Explaining further Hassan Turay said the payment was not commensurate to the market value of their properties but a token of gratitude for their sacrifice from the Government of Sierra Leone.
He called on all property owners that have benefited from the payment to vacate their premises for the contractors to carry out the demolition of their structures. The training and Human Resource Manager also clarified that payments are being made to property owners not land owners
Hon Salaymatu Turay of constituency 112 commended the property owners for their cooperation with SLRA adding that “to give up your properties to be demolished is heart rendering and that deserves empathy.”
She intimated that their sacrifices will be remembered by posterity when the road shall have been constructed. Councillor Mary Harding of ward 393 encouraged the beneficiaries to make good use of the money towards their relocation. The Deputy Financial Secretary at the Ministry of Finance admonished the property owners to show understanding for the sake of national development by cooperating with the contractors to ensure the road projects are completed on time.
This is the third payment to property owners by the SLRA. Handing over of cheques to genuine landowners formed a high point of the ceremony.
