The national publicity secretary of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Victor Reider, has said the SLPP is not crying for a presidential run-off election.
Speaking to Awoko over the weekend at his party’s headquarters, he said “the SLPP is not crying for a run-off, we will win on a first ballot .We have been a modest party and should there be a run-off, we are well prepared for it otherwise the luxury goes to the APC as they have the worst scenario for a run-off’”.
Asked about the SLPP’s plans of an alliance with the People’s Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC) should there be a run-off, he said they had not started any talks with the PMDC until the final results were announced. But boasted that should there be a run-off, “we will cross that bridge.”
Mr Reider added that they were hopeful judging from the results coming out of which many were from the APC’s strongholds.
“There is the possibility for us to win should the results from the SLPP strongholds are read,” he noted.
He also raised concerns about regionalism which he said should not be allowed to play in the politics of Sierra Leone. The SLPP national publicity secretary stressed that politicians should copy from the participatory posture adopted by the out-going President, Ahmad Tejan Kabbah.
