Whilst other provincial party offices of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) are busy putting mechanisms in place to face the July local government elections, the Kono district branch is busy using the office for business purposes.
One Dauda Dagbe, a member of the party who doubles as campaign chairman for Constituency 20, stands accused of being involved in the deal.
He is said to have let out the office to a foreign business man, one Ade, who is now running a regular video show in it.
The deal was expected to last for a short period of time but the amount involved, remained undisclosed. When contacted the party’s district secretary, M.A. Mbayoh, expressed dismay and total dissatisfaction over Mr Dagbe’s behaviour.
Mr Mbayoh said, “the act is an abuse to the party and also to the normal principles of office routine”. He noted that he would ensure the immediate closure of the centre. “It doesn’t mean because the party has lost power, so people should resort to such demeaning behaviour in some of our offices”, he stated.
Some party faithful in Kono are now calling on the party’s hierarchy to suspend Mr Dagbe, and to also ensure that no responsible position is assign him come the district council elections.
