The opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has expressed utmost dismay over a posting on the State House website dated 14 February  that the “SLPP plans to disrupt council polls exposed”.
At a press briefing yesterday at the SLPP secretariat the party chairman, Alhaji UNS Jah, debunked the publication and described it as “baseless and untrue”.
He said his party brought peace to the country and that they had no intention to disrupt it, adding that unhealthy propaganda would degrade the credibility of people.
The chairman noted that, “propaganda is not the solution for now… we have moral, social and political responsibilities”.
Mr Jah maintained that, “we cannot continue to trade lies because the elections have gone and that we should now be thinking of how to develop the country”.
Reading a press statement Jacob Jusu Saffa aka JJ Blood, the SLPP National Secretary General, said, “the SLPP views with dismay and disbelief the posting ‘SLPP plans to disrupt council polls exposed’ at the State House website”.
He stated that one of the core values of his party was peace and unity, noting that the party would oppose any effort that would undermine the peace and stability of the country.
Mr Saffa disclosed that, “the party would further like to inform the public that the posting is basically a calumny campaign against the party and some of its renowned members like Dr Francis Kai Kai, Dr John Karimu and Mr John Benjamin”.
He pointed out that, “it is particularly viewed as an attempt to dent the image of Dr Francis Kai Kai, former executive secretary of the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) programme whose contributions to peace building have been exemplary”.
Giving his own side of the story, Dr Francis Kai Kai said he had never been involved in these kinds of activities, adding further that, “we are committed to the peace process in the country”.
He disclosed that the State House website should deal with activities of the president and other government ministries not for propaganda.
