The now opposition, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) national secretary general, Jacob Jusu Saffa, has commented on the presidential run-off election results.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday at the vandalized SLPP Wallace Johnson Street headquarters, Mr Saffa said most party members were dissatisfied with the results and thought their happiness was stolen, thus also believing that certain members of the international community connived with the National Electoral Commission (NEC) to execute regime change agenda.
Commenting on the results, he said the process of invalidation was dubious as the SLPP could not establish how correct it was that indeed there was over voting in their strongholds.
For the sake of transparency, he went on, the parties should have been informed and recounting undertaken in the presence of both political parties’ agents, rather it was hurriedly done for polling stations with turnouts at 100%.
He charged that there were no significant changes in the results in the few cases where recounting was done but in the unprecedented manner, all remaining figures were inputted throughout the night of Sunday 16 and a press conference hurriedly convened at an unusual time where the APC was declared winner.
Out of the 477 polling stations that were invalidated, Mr Saffa said 426 were from their strongholds but their own tally centre proved that there was 95% voters’ turnout in those stations. “Invalidation therefore disenfranchised nearly 250,000 of SLPP votes, in the interest of peace and development the party accepts the results and recognizes H.E Ernest Bai Koroma as President of the Republic of Sierra Leone,” he concluded.
