The Executive Secretary of the committee of marketing and produce of the Ministry of Trade and Industry has held a sensitization meeting with the people of Kono district to educate them on the change of name from Sierra Leone Produce Marketing Board (SLPMB) to Sierra Leone Produce Marketing Company (SLPMC).
The Executive Secretary of the committee of marketing and produce Ibrahim Turay said the government is renaming the SLPMB to Sierra Leone Produce Marketing Company in order to add value to the product farmers are producing in the country.
The Executive Secretary is encouraging Sierra Leoneans to engage in farming to produce high scale products in order to alleviate poverty in the country. Turay noted that the role of the SLPMC is to educate the public and encourage them to be shareholders of the company.
He disclosed plans to recruit buyer’s agents so that they may add to the differences between quality produce from a low quality one.
He further assured the gathering that the SLPMC will encourage through the visiting of farmers by extending those facilities to them so that they can expand their production. He vowed to announce the prices of produce in time and pre finance credible buying agents so that they will serve as role models in the produce buying sector of the trade ministry.  A concern farmer Sahr Komba said farmers were in economic bondage and hoped that the SLPMC will support farmers to restart their business in a reasonable time to meet the seasonable farming activities in the district.  Komba appealed to government and Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to improve feeder roads in the district to ease their transportation problem.
He further appealed to SLPMC to be children of farmers in serving them in the interest of national development.
