Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – The Sierra Leone Petroleum Dealers and Transporters Union (SLPDTU) finalized its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday, June 23rd, 2024, solidifying its leadership after a period of interim management.
The AGM, a focal point for SLPDTU members nationwide, gathered in Waterloo to deliberate on critical issues facing the union. Opening the proceedings, Chairman John Sesay underscored the significance of the AGM as a forum for reflection and action on union matters.
“As a union, we wield significant influence, but our strength lies in unity and cooperation,” remarked Chairman Sesay.
Addressing the assembly, newly confirmed SLPDTU President Chernor Bah highlighted the executive’s achievements, particularly their successful negotiations on tollgate charges with the government, a development he described as pivotal for the union’s interests.

“In adherence to our constitutional mandate, we are actively engaged in consultations to fortify our governing principles,” President Bah assured members.
Expressing gratitude for their confidence in his leadership, Bah emphasized the union’s growing recognition in governmental decision-making processes, citing improved relations with state and industry stakeholders.
Secretary General Osman Jalloh reassured members about financial matters, affirming the security of union funds held at Vista Bank and outlining reforms to enhance financial oversight.
Alhaji Makasuba, former SLPDTU President and current Senior Adviser, urged members to uphold the union’s role as a vital advocate within the politically sensitive petroleum sector. He called for continuous training of staff to ensure compliance and professionalism.
During the meeting, non-executive members like Abdul Kamara were given opportunities to voice their perspectives. Kamara advocated for formalizing the interim executive, a motion supported unanimously by attendees.
The AGM concluded with members networking and reflecting on its significance as a cornerstone event for the union.
