The President of the National Cycling association Winston D C Crowther has disclosed to Awoko Sports that the association is going to organize the Cycling tour of Sierra Leone as part of the country’s 50th Independence anniversary Celebrations.
He said they are going to have riders from Guinea, Liberia, Ghana, Gambia and Nigeria to participate in the tour. He added that during the tour they will ride in the North, East, South and they are going to end in the Western area.
President Crowther stated that the executive is going to work with the 50th Independence Anniversary Committee to make sure that the tour becomes a reality and he also appealed to sponsors to come onboard to support the Association.
He also stated that apart from the cycling tour which is the main competition this year they are also going to have other competitions like the Bullom Cycling competition in Lungi, and at least three other local competitions which will be disclosed to the press as soon as plans are finalized
He also mentioned that apart from the local competition they are trying very hard to make sure that they take part in some international competitions to expose some of the cyclists who have never taken part in any international competition.
One international competition they are preparing very hard to create serious impact in the All Africa Games which is expected to take part later in the year which will qualify them to the Olympic Games next year in London.
Crowther also revealed that this year as an association they are doing everything possible to make sure that every registered cyclist in the country has insurance so that they are protected by the insurance companies in case of accident.
He went further to describe this year as a year of cycling in this country and as an association they are doing everything possible to take cycling to places this year.
