The Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Handball Association (SLHA) A G Koroma has disclosed to Awoko Sports that the association will not be able to host the Africa challenge competition.
He stated that the basic reason why they will not be able to host the competition is because they do not have a standard pitch.
Presently the wife of the Vice President has promised to assist the association to get a standard pitch.
However because of the absence of a standard pitch and other facilities the competition has been transferred to Mali where the Malian Federation of Handball have expressed their willingness to host the competition.
He also revealed that the competition has been slated for March 26th to April 6th this year in Bamako within the framework of the organization for the challenge trophy 2009 in Africa.
He went further that in this regard the Malian Federation of Handball have invited all the various national federations of handball in Zone 2-CAHB to take part in this 2009 edition in Bamako.
He said that the Africa Challenge Trophy is a competition that should give them right to qualify for the continental and the world cup competition.
Koroma also disclosed that their trip to Nigeria involves some corporate bodies like Aureol Insurance Company, Syke Bank, the Sierra Leone State Lottery, City Council and the Sierra Leone Football Association who have provided the team with lodging at the Kingtom Academy.
He went further to appeal to these and more corporate body’s including the government of Sierra Leone to come on board and sponsor this particular trip as this competition is very important to the country adding that they need to qualify for the world cup so they need the support of every Sierra Leonean.
