Kono Town, Sierra Leone – The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) is set to make history today as they officially launch the first-ever U-12 and U-14 National Youth Championship. The momentous event will take place at the Koidu Mini Stadium in Kono Town.
In an effort to revitalize grassroots football, which serves as the lifeblood of the game, the tournament aims to promote widespread participation in the sport, regardless of age or ability. It also seeks to generate interest in football and create new opportunities for individuals from diverse social backgrounds to engage in the game.
The opening matches promise to be thrilling encounters, with Golden Soccer FC facing off against Shaw United in the U-12 category, while Cosmos FC will lock horns with Soccer Lions FC in the U-14 division. These matches are scheduled to kick off at 2 pm and 4 pm respectively, setting the stage for an exciting opening ceremony.
The SLFA Vice President-1, Harold Nat-Johnson, will be present to witness this historic occasion. He has graciously agreed to perform the symbolic kickoff, officially inaugurating the tournament.
