The Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) started trials yesterday at the Kingtom oval to select the team that will represent Sierra Leone in Nigeria in the North West Africa cricket championship slated for April.
After the North West Africa cricket competition in Nigeria, the team will travel to South Africa to take part in the African affiliate cricket tournament which Sierra Leone was runners-up about two years ago.
The association’s publicity secretary, Bockarie Allieu, said about 30 players would be involved in the trials and a final selection of 14 players would make the final selection for both competitions.
The publicity secretary noted that the selection of players would be done on performance and not by sentiment.
