The Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation yesterday held an orientation ceremony for the newly recruited staff. The program which attracted several journalists from different media houses took place at the compound of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation.
Giving the welcome address the Acting Chairman-Board of Trustee Mr. Festus Minah started by welcoming the new staff members and entreated them to work in the interest of every Sierra Leonean irrespective of ethnic, religious or political affiliation. He told them that they should and must work in the interest of the public rather than dancing to the tune of any Government. He also told them that in their drive to make SLBC the best public broadcasting outfit in Africa, they are sure to be faced with series of challenges.
In his statement the Director General of SLBC Gbanabom Hallowell started by congratulating the new staff on their accomplishment. He told them that “as a new recruit feeling a sense of belonging is not necessarily an easy thing to do, belonging is a challenge that everyone faces at some point in life whether it is at school, work or home. In that same light he advised them to try something new, take time for yourself and don’t be afraid to fail.”
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Information and Communication the Deputy Minister Mr. Sheka Tarawallie said that it Is a pleasure for him as the Government wants to create a level playing field in terms of information dissemination. In order to achieve this he said, that is the reason why the Government appointed a member of the opposition to be the Chairman of the Board. He also told them that this is a new beginning for them and admonished them to do a professional job.
