The Sierra Leone Boxing Association is calling for financial support from business houses and individuals to assist the association as they would be taking part in the 5th ABC/A/BA Zone two boxing competition in Bamako Mali next month.
This was disclosed to Awoko Sports by the Secretary General of the association Christian Campbell during a press briefing yesterday at the National Stadium in Freetown.
He also mentioned that they are going to the competition as defending champions as they won the competition last year in Freetown.
Campbell mentioned that the boxers have been prepared up to 6-8 weeks for the competition and they are going to the competition with about 11 boxers in different weight categories. He also stated that after the Zone two boxing competition if they excel they would also go to Morocco in another boxing competition.
He also disclosed that they would be going to Mali with about three female boxers as the host Mali and Guinea also have female boxers. He also revealed that about 7 countries are supposed to take part in the competition they are Senegal, Gambia, Sierra Leone and the host Mali and a host of other countries would take part in the competition.
The Chairman of the program Mohamed Kabba a senior officer at Sports Council said that Boxing is one of the major sports in the country as they were able to take part in the Commonwealth games last year. He also recalled that last year the executive was able to host the competition after all the problems and they were able to win the competition. This is a sign he said that if the boxers have the necessary support they would bring more laurels to this country.
