The Single Leg Amputee Social Club has spoken about their achievements over the past years which made them win the best sports personality for the year during the All Works of Life award.
The Public Relations Officer Albert M. Mustapha said that SLASC is increasingly recognized in Sierra Leone as National Amputee Football team and the team had undertaken series of tours and tournaments nationally and internationally in England2003, Brazil 2005, Russia 2006, Turkey 2007 and Liberia 2008.
He also said that the main activities of the Single Leg Amputee Social Club is to provide psychosocial healing and physiotherapy to amputee members through their unique and regular football programme.
They have also provided educational support to members and created exchange programmes through national and international competitions.
He also mentioned that SLASC has five football teams with a membership of 300 amputees and able-bodied persons as strong supporters or promoters nationwide.
They are also supporting amputee students in the country to build their academic capacity and they have been working with both the Print and Electronic media.
He also disclosed that the executive of the amputee football team aims to utilize the role of collective responsibility in society in order to contribute to the achievement of the UN Millennium Development goal
