The Sierra Leone Athletics Association is expected to hold an Elective Congress on April 3 this year for a new Executive that will run the association for 4 years.
This was disclosed to Awoko Sports by the Secretary General of the Association Sundifu Sowa after a meeting held by the Minister of Youth Employment and Sports Paul Kamara with the athletics family at his Bishop House office at the National Stadium. Sowa said that of the 15 members of the Executive 10 were present and signed and agreed on the date of the Congress and they are going strictly by the date to ensure that they meet the IAAF deadline.
Sowa said a 5-man Committee had been set up to monitor the election with the NOC Secretary General Joseph Nyande as Chairman for the committee and they are expecting to have the athletics family once more to identify genuine stakeholders He said that after they had identified the genuine stakeholders the next step would be to appoint the Electoral Commissioner supposed to be a former athlete who must be straight forward.
Asked why members of the Oversight Committee of Youth and Sports were not part of the committee, Sowa said they had no business in the election as their own role was to make peace and not to take sides.
