Six best timed Swimmers out of eight competitors have been selected at a final time trials at the National Stadium Swimming Complex last Wednesday. The six are due for further training ahead of the London 2012 Olympics at a training camp in Bad Husen, Germany.
The six swimmers with the fastest times in all four strokes (Butterfly, Freestyle, Back Stroke and Breast Stroke) include Osman Kamara who broke his earlier time record the 100m Freestyle at the first trials by 0.8 seconds; Morris Beale who improved on his earlier time by 0.86 seconds; Sahr James, the most improved swimmer in the team; Abu Bakarr Jalloh, the Team Captain; Aiah Mansa-Musa an old member of the team and Sorie Marrah, a debutant from No. 2 River.
“We are training very hard in anticipation of our proposed trip to the training camp in Germany after which we will leave for the London games,” Victor Carew told Awoko Sports, noting that all of the swimmers have improved greatly on their individual times.
He sounded the hope of the team doing well in the games after the five weeks training in Germany.
Alhaji Dr. A. T. Fadlu-Deen, President of the Association told Awoko Sports that he was impressed by the improvements made by the swimmers since the last trials and expressed satisfaction over the transparent way in which the swimmers were selected.
He expressed optimism about the future of swimming in Sierra Leone now that the Association has resolved to take swimming to the highest level in the country.
