President Ernest Bai Koroma will this morning launch the long awaited Sierratel CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) network at the Sierratel Earth Station, Wilberforce Freetown.
The new 3G (Third Generation) CDMA network or cordless phone was installed by a high profiled Chinese telecommunications outfit, Huawei Technologies Company Limited through a concessional loan from the China Import-Export (Exim) Bank.

According to data, recently China Telecom partnered with Huawei Technologies for their commercial launch of their new third generation CDMA networks in 52 Chinese cities, including 8 (eight) of the 10 (ten) largest cities in China such as Beijing, Tianjin, and in the Jiangsu, Guandong, Shandong and Shanxi provinces. China Telecommunications (China Telecom) a state owned telecom operator in China owns the largest fixed line telephone network in China.
Because of the quality of their network, the Government of Sierra Leone, through the Ministry of Information and Communication has contracted Huawei to implement the Integrated E-Government and Optical Transmission Backbone project that will serve the entire country.
