After a humiliation 5-0 defeat to Mali on Sunday 7th February 2021, the Sierra Leone U-17 team (Sierra Stars) was eliminated from the WAFU Zone A tournament in Senegal.
The Malians opened the score line in the 7th minute through Youba Koita, followed by a 2-0 lead via Mamadoy Doumbia in the 16th minute of play.
In the second half, a brace from Biadiogiu Diallo in the 49th and 84th minutes, plus another from Yacouba Maiga in the 67th minute, sealed a 5-0 defeat for Sierra Leone.
During their first/opening match on Friday 5th February 2021, they lost to Guinea Bissau by 1-0, which saw Mali and Guinea Bissau progressing to the next stage from Group B after Sierra Leone failed to win any of their two matches in the group stage.
According to the media officer of Sierra Stars, Osman Ola, prior to the tournament, the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) had prepared the boys in camp for over four months, with their impressive performances during local and international friendlies giving hope to the nation.
Meanwhile, the team will return to Sierra Leone today, Tuesday 9th February 2021.
