A Sierra Leonean international female athletics’ sprinter Maggie Barrie has donated training equipment and running gears to young athletes recently in Kenema town, east of the country.
According to Barrie she wants to assist young athletes in the country develop in the sport, especially in Kenema, where she came from.
“I want to give athletes the same opportunity I had whilst I was young. I want to support their dreams and goals,” Barrie says.
She says she hopes to see more athletes from Sierra Leone competing at international level.
“That’s my dream. I want to give back to my country and support young athletes, especially female athletes,” she says.
Fatmata Amara, a young female athlete, says she appreciates the gesture. Amara says Barrie has been an inspiration to her – in her own quest of becoming the fastest 400-meter sprinter.
“I want to be like her, and achieve my dream as a young athlete,” Amara says.
