Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Karifa Thoronka, the secretary of the Sierra Leone Tug of War Association, has announced preparations for the upcoming International Men’s and Mixed International Outdoor Tug of War event scheduled for May 31st to June 2nd, 2024.
Thoronka revealed that athletes representing Sierra Leone are undergoing rigorous training four days a week to ensure they are in peak condition for the competition, with the ultimate goal of bringing home medals. He credited the technical director, Sonny Johnson, for his excellent work in preparing the athletes, affectionately referred to as “Pullers,” for the event.
Aminata Bangura, one of the female athletes, expressed the team’s determination not just to participate, but to compete fiercely against other countries in the event. She emphasized the seriousness of their training regime, highlighting their aspiration to put Sierra Leone on the global map and urging government, companies, and individuals to support them in any way possible to boost their morale and chances of victory.
Noel Higgins, Secretary of the Tug of War International Federation (TOWI), emphasized their commitment to making the event a grand success by attracting athletes, clubs, and nations from around the world.
