Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Sierra Leone sprinter Hafsatu Kamara is gearing up for a second Olympic qualification at Paris 2024 after her debut at Rio 2016. Despite holding a full-time position as a professional brand manager, Kamara is intensively training and contributing to the IOC’s Athlete Commission as Sierra Leone’s Athletic Chair.
After narrowly missing the qualifying time for the 100m in Tokyo, Kamara is determined to make a comeback. Based in Atlanta, she emphasizes the significance of mental preparation and is confident in her training, stating, “Being in Rio made me realize how important that mental aspect is. And mentally I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in, too. I’m ready.”
Kamara, who works on the digital platform Highlighter, promoting stories of females in sports, aims to make a broader impact. She wants to break stereotypes and provide representation for Sierra Leoneans globally, emphasizing the diverse spaces they can occupy. BT/20/11/2023
