Former Leone Stars player, Ghanaian born, Atto Mensah, said communities should not focus on the money but on the players if they are to achieve their aims and objectives. He said coming together means a lot that the game of football is being revived in the country so players should have the chance to showcase their talent.
He made this statement during a seminar organize by the Ministry of Sports (MOS) and the National Sports Council (NSC).
Another athlete who shared his ideas during the seminar was George Wyndham. He said he has won the highest number of individual medals than any other sports person in the country even though he is a disabled table tennis player. He said he was able to achieve that because he has passion for the sport and he has also sacrificed. He has always shown loyalty to his country and went further to appeal to community players that the need to make sacrifice for their community if they cannot sacrifice for their community they will nor be able to sacrifice for the country. The deputy minister of Sports, Kai Lawrence Mbayo said, “Our aim is to get the ball rolling again,”. He urged all and sundry to come on board to stop the division in football and promote unity for the sake of the upcoming generation.
The Director of Sports, Ibrahim Bangura, who is the brain behind the tournament, said they are looking forward to potential sponsorship from Dutch football club Sparta Rotherham, Rokel Commercial Bank, Mercury International Limited, among others.
Bangura called on Sierra Leoneans to support their community football teams in the Charity Shield tournament which is the second edition and said ten communities will participate and the last three will be relegated that means they will not be part of the third edition.
