Young Stars Volleyball Club on Saturday April 19th 2014 won both male and female Western Area Volleyball Association indoor competition at the national stadium Volleyball court.
In the female category Young Stars defeated Solar Spikers 3-1 to retain their title. It was a win for Young Stars 25-15, they also came very strong to increase it by two wins in the second set by 25 -23 to reduce the score and in the fourth set it was a win for Young stars which automatically crowned them the winning for this year’s competition.
The match for the day was the male category between Young Stars and RSLAF, the defending champions who failed to retain the trophy for the second consecutive time after losing by three to one margin (3-1) revenging for losing last year to RSLAF in the grand final.
In an interview with the head coach of RSLAF Hassan M. Kamara told this medium that he was disappointed with the manner his boys approached the match. He said they lost concentration and game spirit. He also mentioned that the first referee was bias accusing him of being a member of the Young Stars Volleyball Club.
However, Ibrahim Tortoh Koroma who happens to be the head coach for Young Stars Volleyball Club expressed his happiness for winning the competition in the male category for the first time.
He said that this has been his dream since he took over as coach for the club. He said he knew his boys will made him proud because he has sensed that since the start of the competition. He also said that it was a challenge for him at his age to claim such success.
The beach volleyball competition will end on Sunday April 27th 2014 in a grand closing ceremony were prices for both indoor and the beach volleyball will be given to deserving winners.
The fixture will see RSLAF playing against Young Stars Volleyball Club in the male category and Solar Spikers will be engaging Double Spikers in the female category.
