Sierra Leone Sports: ‘’We were up to the task of winning the trophy ”- Foulah Town coach

The Head Coach of the Foulah Town, Amidu Karim, said they were up to the task of winning the trophy. Foulah Town defeated Abacha City by two goals to nil (2-0) to win this year COFA Super Inter Community League on Sunday 21 May 2017, at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown.
He stated that they were able to win this year because they learned from their past experience where they were runners-up. They made the necessary corrections.
He stated that during the final in the first ten minutes they were having some problems but the team was able to adjust quickly. Their opponents failed to adjust. That’s why we scored two goals.
He revealed that they played better in the semi-final because of the heavy rains during the final. The winning was important to the fans who were disappointed last year.
He praised their opponent who played very well. Abacha made it to the final in their first year in the league. That is a big achievement for them.
Karim said when the league started most people were looking at Abacha City as an underdog. They created a lot of surprises in the league.
The captain of Abacha City, Osman Kamara, said “Losing the final made them feel very bad because during the match we got the first three chances but we failed to make good use of it.”
But when their opponent got their own chances they made good use of it and scored two goals.
He stated that Foulah Town was the better side and they deserved the win. He thanked the officers and supporters who were behind them throughout the competition.
The Chairman of Central One Football Association (COFA), Sammah Sesay, said he was very happy that the league has ended and they are going to work very hard to make next year’s league even better. The COFA Chairman thanked Sierra Leone Brewery Limited for providing Le50 million to the winning team. COFA provided Le25 million for the runners-up.
Sesay thanked the Minister of Sports, Ahmed Khanou, Deputy Minister of Sports, Al Sankoh Conteh, and the Director of Sports, Ibrahim Bangura for their contribution.
And the award ceremony is expected to take place on Thursday 25 May 2017.
