Western Area Sport Association (WASA) is planning to organize an inter community football gala for eight communities at the Brima Attugha Mini Stadium in eastern Freetown.
The gala is scheduled to kick starts on Wednesday 31 May this year with Foulah Tong Community playing against Allen Town in the opening match.
Chairman of WASA, Alhassan Kamara, acknowledged the fact that they’ve not being organizing competitions for a very long time due to reasons beyond their control.
The Chairman revealed that they are staging the week long gala in which eight communities will be playing for undisclosed prize money to rebuild their relationship with the communities and as well capture the attention of the fans who have for the past years anticipating to see WASA organizing football and other sporting competitions.
Kamara further said, “All eight competing communities were invited and we avoided inviting adjoining communities to avoid confusion. Each community paid a commitment fee of Le100,000. “We asked each of the eight communities to pay the commitment fee but not a registration fee because we invited them to play in the competition,” Kamara explained.
WASA named the gala in honour of the Eastern Lions Football Club, Chairman, Ahaji Sanusi Rashid (Buskie). They’ve named the trophy the “Buskie” because the Chairman is a household name in football and shown his commitment to youth and football development.
The competition will last for a week and feature the teams from: Foulah Tong, Allen Town, Leicester, Mao Waff, Ross Road, Clintonians, Fourah Bay and Dove Cut. The communities will all battle for the “Buskie trophy” and bluffing rights.
Ibrahim Conteh, of Dove Cut, said the competition will bring the communities together. Abu Kamara of Ross Road appealed to all those taking part to advise their supporters to behave properly, on and off the field.
