Tottenham Foundation is set to host its first edition of inter-area football competition at the Brima Attuoga Mini Stadium in the eastern part of Freetown.
The competition is scheduled to kick start 3rd week in October with over 20 communities expected to compete for the brand new vehicle (Poda-poda) which is the championship price for the eventual winner.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation Bockarie Torto (Calculator), they came into conclusion to stage the competition in order to give back to the communities as a way of showing how much they have interest in promoting grassroots football in the country.
He said the vehicle was bought by the foundation so there is no need for any of the participating communities to fear about if it will be actually given to the champions at the end of the competition.
When asked about security measures, he said they have informed the local Unit Commander at Ross Road Police Station to provide them with adequate security personnel in each and every match. Adding they’ve also spoken to the communities to advice their fans to refrain from violent conduct.
CEO Torto furthered that they’ve met with the Western Area Referees Association (WAFRA) and all matches will be officiated by them.
“This is our first competition so we will do our utmost best to maintain best practice. We want to sell the image of our foundation so we will fight very hard to maintain our credibility,” he concluded.
