Sierra Leone Sports: Taekwondo Association receives Nigerian champ

The President of the Sierra Leone Taekwondo Association, Oness Johnson, said that the weeklong Development of National Sports Structure (DNSS) program is an eye-opener.
He said that after the program they are expecting more people to come on board locally and internationally so at the end they are going to be world class Taekwondo fighters.
President Johnson said after this program the sport is going to expand all over the country and the one thing while he like the course it is because it is dealing with the Technical, Administrative system and also structure of the Association.
The international expert, George Ashiru of Nigeria, has a lot of experience in the sport. Ashiru was Nigerian Taekwondo champion in the light and welterweight categories and won a silver medal at the 4th All Africa Games in Kenya in 1987. He has been named Best National Player, Best National Referee and then Team Manager to the Beijing 2008 Nigerian Taekwondo Olympic Team.
Additionally, he became Africa’s first ever 7th Degree Black belt International Master Instructor & International Referee Class A, certified by the International Taekwon-Do Federation ((ITF) and 8th Degree Taekwondo, issued in Korea through Taekwondo Jidokwan Korea, named “Taekwondo Ambassador” by Taekwondo Jidokwan Society, and is listed in the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) Hall of Fame. He is Technical Advisor and two times Inductee of the Official Taekwondo Hall of Fame
He said with all this achievement he hopes that the participants will learn a lot from him which they will put into practice.
On the first day of the course, George Ashiru, gave them background of the course and said that they need to condition themselves and he also said that if want to be a good Taekwondo fighters you need to be focus and determined to achieve your goal. He said the course has been divided into practical and theory.
The course is organized by the Taekwondo Association in collaboration with the National Olympic Committee and sponsored by the Olympic Solidarity.
